PPD (FdA Fashion Marketing and Promotion Hojoon Park)

I was interning at Bielle Fashion Ltd, London-based womenswear brand last term. I've had a great deal of experience that middle-aged women can afford priced items and also be interested in fashion trend. I realised that there are few sustainable fashion brands in the UK and New-York based ethical brand called 'EILEEN FISHER' is popular. Therefore, I was planning to launch new London-based fashion brand to support and encourage fair-trade and under-developed people. I've just targeted over 40's well-educated women. However, I though it is a lot of research and analysis in seven weeks with blogging and making advertising campaign. Actually, it was really hard work for me. I could not clearly understand what this project is, so I had panic before group seminar and individual tutorial with Chrissy. Thanks to her help with other group mates’ feedbacks, I solved some problems. Furthermore, I started the project as early as I could, and try to do primary research and secondary research. I am really happy to see Chrissy every week. She was very helpful to her students included me. I used to bring some results and question list and then get feedback from Chrissy. She emailed us in public and individual way every week. I was especially impressed of a suggestion about pop-up store and its costing.  During group tutorial, when some peers were overwhelming with Youtube video, Chrissy tried to let us relax and concentrate on what we should get done at that time. Moreover when we have huge confusion of the project in week 4, Chrissy was on my side and told me to keep going on the project.

Working on the final project, a few friends suggest launching the fashion brand actually. I was happy to hear from them, and I liked the brand name called ‘Freesia Island’’. It was too hard to get Freesia Island. I used to try to think what the brand aim to or what symbol is. As a result, As a result of considering, I finally named ‘Freesia Island’ that meant freesia is sort of flower sounds like free and island sounds like very countryside and casual wear, rather than city or work wear. In an aspect of marketing campaign, I benchmarked some competitors such as EILLEN FISHER and COS. I used to reference their looks as 2014 S/S collections, and then structuring PR activity was also benchmarked.

chelsea

Chelsea  style could be posh, glamours and classic... IMO, the  style is close to European style compared to other fashion areas in London such as Shoreditch and Hoxton. There are so many European retailers from France and Italy on Kings Road and Sloane Street. Kings Road got full of contemporary and lifestyle shops such as Peter Jones (John Lewis group) and the shop at blue bird (multi lifestyle boutique), while Sloane Street got full of high-end and designer brands. there is the MCM, Korean luxury retailer, flagship store in London. Tom Ford store is opening soon, many people are looking forward to seeing it with specific interiors and products:-)

202 London

202 London is one of distinctive shops in London. The address is 202 Westbourne Grove nearby Notting hill area, therefore the name is '202'. The concept of the shop is to bring high-end fashion retail and modern brunch together.

The owner is very talented and influential retailer called 'Peter Sidell' who is also running The Library (Indie menswear store) in South Kensington.

 Nice Visual Merchandising with new season shoes~!!!
 On the ground floor, there are 2 looks with modern brasseries:-) Yummy
 Kind and Fashionable staffs. They are good at explaining niche brands from France or Italy very well.
202 London is also keen on art works such as great photos like that...

Shop Watch - EILEEN FISHER 2 (Interview)

My house wifi was not working yesterday. I couldn't upload it at all :-( sorry for delay...

Let's continue by the interview with a kind staff.

Q. Thanks a lot. I am doing my project about fashion business. I've just launched my own brand in my mind. I would like to benchmark EILEEN FISHER which is famous for timeless casual fashion brand from the USA. What's your target audience?

A. well.. Our target audience? erm... it's sort of common questions for us. you know our target is middle-aged women, rather than younger and trendy women. but we focus on all the women because our size range is wider than normal size ranges. Furthermore, we've got 3 different types depending on customer's body type. you can check our website.

Q. Thank you. I am just wondering about size range. what exactly makes the brand different with the size?

A. We are located between normal American size and European size. American size tend to be more comfortable and relax compared to France size. But EILEEN FISHER has got wide size range between USA and EU. For example, UK 8 size is our brand's XS size (the smallest size of normal line).

Q. Oh I see. what's advantages of the brand?

A. so many.. our company is quite small but very influential in the USA. Our customers are seldom disappointed of our items because of its simplicity and good quality. In the UK, we've just launched one more standalone store in Wimbledon Village.

Q. Oh really!! It's amazing. It's too hard to dig into UK fashion market for overseas brands. By the way, how many stores has it got in England?

A. Let me think.. In my memory, it could be 6 stores. 3 stores are in Wimbledon Village, Marylebone high street and Covent Garden. 3 concession at Fenwick department stores. Of course, Fenwick Bond Street is the first concession in the UK.

Shop Watch - EILEEN FISHER at Fenwick Bond St

One of Freesia Island's main competitors would be EILEEN FISHER from USA. We've got similar target audiences, price range and fashion taste (I hope).

I went to Fenwick Bond Street today. The mega retailer is famous for its distinctive fashion selection and influential British retail history. I am really a big fan of the store as well. When It's on sale promotion, I used to go shopping there (Yeah I know, I am a bulk shopper with strong loyalty).

The reason why I visited there today is exclusive fashion promotion at EILEEN FISHER from noon to 2 PM.


I really enjoyed macaroons with a glass of champagne!!! There were friendly staffs and employed stylist (She is so gifted to introduce 2013 S/S items)

Furthermore, I got an interview opportunity with one of main staffs at EILEEN FISHER. Actually, I've seen her and her colleague(Danielle) before at Scoop International (big fashion trade show) in London.
